Call for Prayer for Indonesia in Wake of Tsunami
Let us be in prayer and loving solidarity with the people of Indonesia and the Christian community there, including the Methodist Church of Indonesia, in the wake of a December 23 tsunami that caused hundreds of deaths and injuries, notably on the islands of Java and Sumatra. The surprising, destructive wall of water is thought to have been caused by an eruption of the Anal Krakatau volcano.
Global Ministries and the United Methodist Committee on Relief has reached out to partners there and have initially received a request for prayer for the families of those killed, injured and still missing. The Rev. Denny Nainggolan, superintendent of District Six of the Methodist Church of Indonesia, reports that the death toll has not yet been determined. Hundreds of homes were destroyed, he said.
"We covet your prayers for Indonesia," Nainggolan wrote in an email. "Pray also for a safe and peaceful Christmas here. Christians who are celebrating Christmas many times become the target of the radical Muslims’ attack. Pray for God’s protection upon his church as we have our Christmas services on the 24th and 25th.
"Have a blessed Christmas. May the birth of Christ create in us a heart for Christ. The joy and peace of the Lord be with you."
Please give for relief and restoration in Indonesia through UMCOR's International Disaster Response, Advance 982450.
