The wildfires in the southeastern United States have been threatening people, property, pets, and livestock for weeks. Cathy Earl, UMCOR U.S. disaster response manager, has been in communication with the disaster coordinators representing the United Methodist Conferences in all affected areas.
Each is preparing to respond appropriately as they await a time when it is safe to do so.
Dave Henderson, Holston United Methodist Conference in Eastern Tennessee, reports that their response teams are on standby. And awaiting direction from emergency managers.
You can help in the following ways:
· Pray for the firefighters working hard to contain these fires. As well as for the families who have been displaced.
· Make health kits. These will be used by individuals who have been displaced from their homes.
· Make a donation to UMCOR.
· Use this as an opportunity to prepare yourself, your congregation, and your community to respond when disaster strikes.
