September 26, 2013—The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is responding with emergency grants to meet relief needs in Mexico after two storms converged there September 13 and caused widespread flooding and landslides.
UMCOR is working with the Methodist Church of Mexico and the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) to provide emergency food supplies other relief support to affected families and individuals.
A million were affected and more than 120 died in the flooding and landslides after Tropical Storm Manuel, from the Pacific Ocean, and Hurricane Ingrid, from the Gulf of Mexico, pelted Mexico simultaneously.
Twenty-four of Mexico’s 31 states were impacted by the storms. Hardest hit were the states of Guerrero, Sinaloa, Oaxaca, Michoacán, Veracruz, and Chihuahua.
