November 7, 2013—Typhoon Haiyan is expected to hit the Philippines with force tomorrow, Friday. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is already making preparations to respond through our local office there.
Experts are calling the highly organized storm, known locally as Yolanda, a “super typhoon,” with expected winds of up to 170 miles per hour. US officials have identified Haiyan as the strongest typhoon active in the world right now.
A category 5 storm, Typhoon Haiyan is expected to impact many areas of the Philippines, including Bohol, the region badly damaged by a recent earthquake.
Please keep the people of the Philippines and our staff at UMCOR Philippines in your prayers. Donations to International Disaster Response, Advance #982450, will be used to respond to this and similar emergencies.
