August 30, 2012—After Hurricane Isaac lumbered through Mississippi and Louisiana this week, United Methodists are anxious to help survivors.
Though weaker now than when it first made landfall, Isaac, now a tropical storm, continues to dump heavy rains and provoke widespread flooding as it makes its way north through Louisiana.
The Louisiana and Mississippi annual conferences will likely begin to make damage assessments tomorrow, at the earliest. Once those assessments are made, volunteers will be needed to help with cleanup. Please check the conference websites for details.
Until then, you can help those who are impacted by this and future storms right now by preparing cleaning buckets. Visit www.umcor.org for details of cleaning bucket contents and to watch a video on how to prepare the buckets.
You can also respond by making your donation to US Disaster Response, UMCOR Advance #901670, and helping UMCOR provide emergency grants to those affected.
