NEWS: REDUCING DISASTER RISK IN HAITI
School children in Haiti.
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is supporting the ACT Alliance in the second phase of its collaborative initiative—Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction (CC/DRR) program in Haiti. Through community-level disaster risk reduction projects, the program will address the effects of climate change while decreasing the risks of future disasters upon vulnerable Haitian communities.

Approximately 160 to 200 individuals will attend two national workshops that will include faith-based leaders, members of the national media, and the Methodist Church of Haiti (Eglise Methodiste d’Haiti).

CC/DRR program, endorsed by the ACT Haiti Forum, began as a joint pilot program in 2012 with UMCOR, Norwegian Church Aid, Lutheran World Federation, Finn Church Aid, Christian Aid, Service Chritien d’Haiti, and Lutheran World Relief. A central feature of the successful pilot program was to support local Haitian-led organizations.

PRAYER: PHILIPPINES FLOODS
UMCOR Philippines volunteers prepare food packages for flood impacted communities in Rosario.
More than 146,000 people were displaced by flooding due to non-stop torrential rains spawned by storm-enhanced southwest monsoon in Metro Manila and four more regions in Luzon, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, an agency of the Philippine government.

Please pray for UMCOR Philippines staff and volunteers as they work tirelessly to prepare and distribute emergency food packages to vulnerable residents of the municipality of Rosario in the province of Cavite, Philippines. Cavite and several towns of Laguna province have been placed under a state of calamity after monsoon rains, intensified by Tropical Storm "Maring," brought about heavy flooding. Read more about UMCOR’s response here.

Please pray, too, for the tens of thousands of persons affected earlier this month by devastating floods in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Myanmar. Intercede with Psalm 46:1.
