NEWS: AFTER 'EPIC' FLOOD, TN BEARS SCARS
May 2010 brought severe weather that covered 43 Tennessee counties with 22 inches of rain in half a day. The floods were “an epic event,” said Bill Carr, disaster response coordinator for the Memphis Annual Conference.
More than two years later, the worst of the damage has been repaired, though some flood survivors have yet to move back into their homes.
Carr's colleague, Jason Brock, has also been looking back on the past two years, during which Brock estimates that UMCOR helped some 3,000 people on the road to their recovery.
Working through 14 different local long-term recovery committees, UMCOR offered case management with its signature holistic approach that addresses housing needs as well as emotional and spiritual care.
“We still have open cases in three counties,” said Brock. “We hope, by the end of this month, most of those families will have moved back into their homes. And, by the end of the year, we hope all of them are back.” Read more.

Please pray for Charles Honess, a retired businessman who is biking from Atlantic Beach, Florida, to San Diego, California, to raise awareness and funds for UMCOR. He expects to be biking through Texas this week.
Pray, too, for Melissa Crutchfield, UMCOR’s new associate general secretary for international development, as she takes on the task of joining UMCOR’s international development and health units, as well as other responsibilities.
