NEWS: FIERCE FLOODING IN PHILIPPINES
A combination of typhoon and seasonal monsoon have brought torrential rains, storm surges and flooding in and around the Filipino capital, Manila, and surrounding provinces. Fifty-one people are known to have died in the storm that also chased tens of thousands from their homes.
Staff and volunteers of the Philippines office of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) travelled to affected areas to gauge the extent and impact of the flooding, but their efforts were often hindered by flooded roads.
They were able to reach residents of a fishing community, Nasugbu Batangas, and answer their call for help. A storm surge had struck the village, destroying homes and boats, which community members rely on for their livelihoods. About 200 families were affected.
In the meanwhile, she said, “Please continue to pray for us and for the survivors of these floods.” Read more.

PRAYER: THIRD PAN-AFRICA HEALTH CONSULTATION
Pray for the third pan-Africa health consultation, which will take place in Accra, Ghana, next week. These consultations, led by UMCOR and Imagine No Malaria, are powerful collaborative events in which representatives of The United Methodist Church’s annual conferences from across Africa meet, discuss health challenges, and find creative solutions for addressing the needs of their communities.
Pray, too, for those impacted by fires in Oklahoma that have scorched more than 78,000 acres since August 3. Around 200 homes have been destroyed. Please remember these families in your prayers.
