Associate General Secretary
As UMCOR’s Associate General Secretary for International Development, Melissa Crutchfield strategically plans and manages UMCOR’s global health and international development activities around the world. She works closely with UMCOR’s field offices and international partners to empower and strengthen communities and individuals to live healthy and productive lives.
In her previous role of Assistant General Secretary for International Disaster Response, Crutchfield coordinated UMCOR’s actions in the wake of natural or human-caused disasters in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
She continues to work closely with local and international partners, including but not limited to Methodist and United Methodist Church members, alongside impacted communities as they transition from relief to long-term recovery and development.
Before joining UMCOR, Crutchfield worked with the Academy for Educational Development and Aurora Associates International on USAID-sponsored scholarship programs for children and young adults in Sub-Saharan Africa and the West Bank and Gaza. She also has worked with the International Rescue Committee to develop, monitor, and evaluate curricula for refugee education programs in Guinea, and taught English in Cameroon for the US Peace Corps.
Crutchfield has a Master’s degree in International Training and Education from American University in Washington, DC. She also holds a BA in French from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She is fluent in French, has lived or worked in more than 25 countries, and is a lifetime United Methodist.
